Engagement rate calculator

Work out the engagement rate of a TikTok or Instagram post, or of your recent posts together, by views or by followers. The formula and your own sum are shown under the answer.

Count these as engagements

Example numbers. Type over them with yours, or .

TikTok engagement rate · one post · by views

7.48%

(1,240 likes + 86 comments + 31 shares + 19 saves) ÷ 18,400 views × 100 = 7.48%

By views tells you how many of the people who watched reacted, so it works for posts that reached beyond your followers. What counts as good varies by niche and account size, so compare against your own past posts.

The formula

Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. Swap views for followers to measure against your audience instead of against the people who watched.

For several posts, the calculator divides total engagements by total views, so one big post doesn't drown out the rest. By followers, it uses the average engagements per post.

Where to find your numbers

  • TikTok: each video shows its likes, comments, saves and shares, and your profile shows each video's views.
  • Instagram: on a professional account, a post's insights show its views, likes, comments, shares and saves.

Rates rise when posts give people a reason to react. That usually means a specific moment your viewer knows, which is what Feedrick builds every post around.

Questions

Good to know.

How do you calculate engagement rate?

Add up a post's engagements (likes, comments, shares and saves), divide by its views or by your follower count, and multiply by 100. For several posts, divide total engagements by total views, or average engagements per post by followers.

Should I divide by views or by followers?

By views tells you how many of the people who watched reacted, which suits TikTok and any post that reached people who don't follow you. By followers tells you how much of your own audience reacted. Pick one and stick to it, so your posts compare fairly.

What is a good engagement rate?

There isn't one number. It varies by niche, platform and account size, and neither TikTok nor Instagram publishes a benchmark. The most useful comparison is your own: work out your average, then see which posts beat it.

Which interactions should count?

Likes, comments, shares and saves are the usual four, and all are ticked to start. Untick any you don't want to count, for example to see a likes-only rate.

Are my numbers saved anywhere?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
