TikTok's username rules
From TikTok's help center, checked on 22 October 2026:
- A username must have 2 to 24 characters.
- It can only contain letters, numbers, underscores and periods.
- It can't end with a period.
- You can change it once every 30 days, and changing it changes your profile link too.
- A name you give up can't be claimed by another account for a short while.
Your username (the @handle that makes up your profile link) isn't the same as your nickname, which TikTok describes as the name on your account that others see across the app. Your brand name can live there.
How to pick one you'll keep
- Make it sayable. If someone hears it once in a video, they should be able to type it.
- Go easy on punctuation. One period or underscore can separate words; three makes it hard to remember.
- Match your other accounts. The same handle on Instagram and YouTube makes you easier to find.
- Leave room to grow. A niche word helps people place you, but your name will outlast any one topic.
