How a caption that works is built
People see the first line of a caption before they decide to tap “more”, so that line has to earn the rest. Every caption here follows the same four parts:
- A hook. One line that names a moment your reader knows, or says something they didn't expect.
- One line of value. What your product does for them, in their words, not your feature list.
- A call to action. One thing to do next: save it, follow, or try it from the link in your bio.
- A few hashtags. Specific ones that describe the post, not a wall of popular tags.
The platform changes the shape. TikTok captions read best short, because the video does the talking. Instagram and LinkedIn give a caption more room, so the line breaks between parts make it easier to read.
Caption limits by platform
| Platform | Caption limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2,200 characters, up to 30 hashtags | Meta developer docs | |
| TikTok (video) | 2,200 characters | TikTok for Developers |
| 3,000 characters | LinkedIn Help |
Counts here are in UTF-16 characters, the unit TikTok's documentation uses, so some emoji count as two. Checked on 22 October 2026.
From caption to finished post
A caption needs a post to go with it. Feedrick makes both from your website: it writes the caption, films the AI UGC video or designs the meme or carousel, and posts the ones you keep. Short on ideas for the first line? Try the hook generator.
Questions
Good to know.
Is this caption generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and has no limit. Change the goal, tone or platform, or press New captions, as often as you like.
How long can an Instagram caption be?
Meta's developer documentation sets the maximum at 2,200 characters, with up to 30 hashtags and 20 @mentions. Each caption here shows its length against that limit.
How long can a TikTok caption be?
TikTok's developer documentation caps video captions at 2,200 characters. Most captions that work are far shorter: a line or two, then hashtags.
How many hashtags should I use?
A few that describe the post well. The generator adds three to five, taken from your brief: your brand, what it is, who it's for and the post's main word.
Can Feedrick write captions for me automatically?
Yes. Feedrick writes a caption for every post it makes from your website, alongside the video, meme or carousel. You can edit any caption before it goes out.
